El-P and Killer Mike as Run The Jewels, are finally getting the proper attention the rap duo deserves. They’ve performed with TV On The Radio on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert joining Kendrick Lamar to be the only hiphop artists to perform on the high-rating show thus far. Also, the duo’s album ‘Run The Jewels 2‘ is critically acclaimed and is a personal favorite of mine boasting a raw approach to just dope raps over dope beats, no need for hooks or any other mainstream gimmicks. Their latest offering, Meow The Jewels, is no gimmick either, trust me. ‘Meow The Jewels’ is a remix to ‘Run The Jewels 2’, with each original record receiving scratches from prominent producers and DJs  such as Just Blaze, The Alchemist, BOOTS, Zola Jesus, and more. Each record ingeniously incorporates cat meows with enough restraint that the album is hilariously entertaining and has substantial replay value. It’s like a well conceived joke where it’s novelty never wains, the album even starts with a snippet of Killer Mike speaking to Snoop Dogg on the concept of an album with beats built around cat meows; proof that they’ve at least given this some thought. Thanks to Kickstarter more than $60,000 was raised to make what started as a joke to ending up being the first ‘cat rap’ album. El-P and Killer Mike are keeping the ball of success rolling as they’re already working on ‘Run The Jewels 3’, but I think it’s safe to say that we’re all really waiting for a ‘Woof The Jewels’.
