Mick Jenkins music video ‘Drowning’ takes the narrative of slaves escaping their masters along the Mississippi River (presumably). The BADBADNOTGOOD instrumental is deeply rooted in Jazz. The chorus is an enigma “when the real hold you down you supposed to drown right? Wait, that don’t sound right…”. Director Nathan R. Smith’s eloquently depicts its conundrum from a scene where Mick Jenkins, on a raft, saving a fellow slave drowning in the waters. From there the story dives deeper into its compelling allegory. ‘Drowning’, along with ‘Spread the Love‘, will live on Mick Jenkins album ‘The Healing Component‘ arriving 9/23/16.
