I love New York rap. What typically comes to mind is it’s original boom-bap sound, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, and the list goes on and on and on and on. NYC native, 18 year old rapper Desiigner’s music does not neatly fit that archetype, but in his popular single ‘Panda’, he raps “Credit cards and the scammers. Hitting off licks in the bando…”, which bares the same street-life pattern of idolized NY rap just in a contemporary time. The New York City native’s music more accurately resembles that of Atlanta, Georgia’s rapper named Future. Which is of no coincidence as the young, eccentric rapper welcomes the criticism of sounding similar to Future whom he idolize.  ‘Panda’ has been gaining mass traction like the white BMW X6 the song entertainingly describes. The song also caught the attention of Chicago’s Kanye West, another idol of the young NYC rapper. Kanye ultimately weaved a strand of ‘Panda’ into his single ‘Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2’ from his album ‘The Life Of Pablo’. Kanye possibly enjoyed Desiigner’s style so much that he signed him to his label G.O.O.D. Music, opening the door to more possibilities for the young rapper driving towards his goals, one of which being to collab. with Future.
